What is Canva? Recently, I have been connected with a virtual co-op! My first assignment for her was to create a poster for her classroom. To do this, I used an online tool called Canva. Canva is a site where flyers, posters, letterheads, business cards, postcards, and so much more can be created. In addition, it is free and very easy to use! Canva first provides you with a variety of backgrounds that you can choose from, or allows you to create your own. From there, you simply have to type what you wish to be on your creation, add images or other designs if you would like, and your work is finished. Creations can be downloaded to your computer and can then be printed off or used however desired. To the right is the poster that I designed using Canva for my co-op. Below is an image of the Canva website, showing a blank poster with multiple layouts that can be chosen from.
Danielson Framework and Canva One of the greatest advantages of using Canva is that you are free to put whatever you want on the creations that you make. For this reason, I believe that all of the elements of the Danielson Framework could be expressed using Canva. However, Canva most closely relates to components 2A, 2B, and 2C of the Danielson Framework that focusses on classroom environment. To help create a positive mindset, establish classroom rules and procedures, and encourage students to work hard, Canva can easily be used. Posters can be made and hung up all around the classroom that help create the desired environment.
Using Canva in the Future I love Canva! It is so simple, yet it produces great results. It is easy for me to envision myself using this tool to create posters to hang in my future classroom. I think it can be particularly useful for giving students involvement in the functioning of the classroom. For example, as a class, we can make a poster that represents our personality and portrays the goals that we have. In doing this, students will feel that their voices have been heard, and they will be able to see their own ambitions each day. I can also teach my students how to use Canva and have them make a creation of their own as a form of assessment.
