What is Classcraft? Classcraft at its lowest level is an online tool that allows teachers to monitor classroom behavior, but it is so much more! Through this site, teachers can place students on teams, reward them for positive behavior, and implement consequences when necessary. With this video game-like tech tool, all students are players in the game, and all can have several different "powers" that allow them to do various things in the classroom. For example, after collecting a specified quantity of points from good behavior, the student can ask the teacher if a question on their test is right. If students are not behaving as the teacher desires, they might receive "sentences", or measures of discipline that are appropriate for the situation. As a whole, the site is great for motivating students to do their best, reinforcing positive behavior, and building teamwork in the classroom.
Danielson Framework and Classcraft Many components of the Danielson Framework are addressed through Classcraft. As a classroom management tool, Classcraft clearly is beneficial in monitoring student behavior, which is component 2D of the Danielson Framework. In addition, Classcraft promotes teamwork, relationships, and hard work. It also allows students to see the progress that they are making individually and as a team, giving them a sense of pride in their work. Because of these factors, Classcraft also relates to components 2A and 2B, which center on creating a positive learning environment.
Using Classcraft in the Future In order to monitor student behavior, particularly if there are issues in the classroom, I prefer to communicate face to face. Because of this, I will most likely not use Classcraft as a classroom management tool in the future. However, as a result of its engaging yet competitive nature, I believe Classcraft can be a great tool for encouraging students to do their best, value their learning and to enjoy each other inside and outside of the classroom. It can also help me teach students various life skills, such as holding each other accountable, using privileges wisely, and being a good team player. For these reasons, Classcraft is a tech tool that I can envision myself using in my future classroom.
